27-07-2016
Zodiak Rights, the distribution arm of Banijay Group, has licensed all North and Latin American rights of the one-hour psychological thriller Wolf Creek to Lionsgate, it was announced today by Caroline Torrance, Head of Scripted at Zodiak Rights.

Lionsgate has licensed the series to its Pop TV joint venture with CBS, a nationally distributed network seen in over 80 million homes. The network will premiere Wolf Creek in the US on Friday, October 14 at 10pm, ET/PT. The deal was brokered by Lauren Freeman, director of Acquisitions for Lionsgate, and Andreas Lemos, VP Sales and Acquisitions at Zodiak Rights.

Based on the international hit feature film of the same name, John Jarratt reprises his role as murdering psychopath Mick Taylor, wreaking havoc in the Australian Outback, in Wolf Creek, a STAN original series. Adapted for television by Peter Gawler, Greg McLean and Felicity Packard, Wolf Creek is produced by Screentime, a Banijay Group company, in association with Emu Creek Pictures and financed with the assistance of Screen Australia and the South Australian Film Corporation.

Wolf Creek’s cast is spearheaded by the chilling John Jarratt (Django Unchained) and emerging superstar Lucy Fry (11.22.63), whose fierce performance gives the story an exhilarating feminist twist.

‘This is the kind of terrifying, in-your-face thriller that has become a Lionsgate trademark, and we expect it to resonate with audiences’, said Lionsgate president of Worldwide Television & Digital Distribution, Jim Packer. ‘We believe that Wolf Creek will add an exciting new dimension to Pop’s growing roster of programming', remarked.

Brad Schwartz, president, Pop, said: ‘The series is a binge-worthy, premium revenge tale that we are thrilled to bring fans at the perfect time of the year. To turn everything you expect from a horror film around and hunt the psychopath through a strong and singularly-focused female protagonist is thrilling to watch. It is probably the scariest series to ever premiere on basic cable and will have viewers hooked by 13:40 of the first episode’.

Tim Mutimer, CEO Zodiak Rights, concluded: ‘Lionsgate team has demonstrated a great amount of enthusiasm for the project. In addition, Pop's support for this original piece of drama will ensure that Wolf Creek makes a huge impact in arguably the most competitive media environment in the world’.
