Eccho Rights: Kvartal 95’s Servant of the People will be adapted in the US

20-09-2016
Eccho Rights (Sweden) and Kvartal 95 (Ukraine) announced the sale of the remake rights for political comedy Servant of the People to Fox Studios (USA). Imagine will be in charge of the series.

Servant of the People became the highest rated TV product of the last autumn season and most talked-about premier on Ukrainian TV. The story is about modest history teacher who was caught on camera raging over the miserable situation in his country. When a pupil posts the video on Youtube, it becomes a viral sensation.

Everybody loves his outrage and people start gathering money for a presidential campaign. Which he wins! Servant of the People follows his new life as president; he has no interest in changing his life, lives in his old flat and takes his bike to work; it’s just that now he is the most powerful man in the country and has to clean out the Augean stables of the state and fight the army of corrupted and deceitful bureaucrats.

In August 2016 Kvartal 95 started production of the feature movie and second season of the series. The first season as readymade product was sold to Estonia, Moldova and Kazakhstan.

Vladimir Zelenskiy, co-founder and creative producer of Kvartal 95: ‘We are very proud to be the producers of the first Ukrainian series one of US Majors is acquiring the rights for. It is a breakthrough for the whole Ukrainian television industry. The story about an ordinary teacher, who became President of the country and began to fight against corruption at all levels, was resonant for millions of people in our country. But the original idea is universal since all over the world people want to see decent and honest politicians at the helm of the state’.

Servant of the People is such a strong comedy concept and is so relevant with the contemporary mistrust in politicians. From the first time I heard about it, I immediately thought that this going to be a hit. It’s simply a brilliant series’, completed Nicola Söderlund, Managing Partner at Eccho Rights.
