MTG Studios commissions new suspense thriller The Lawyer

06-02-2017
MTG Studios confirmed the commission of new ten-part thriller The Lawyer, which will be premiered exclusively on MTG’s Nordic video streaming service Viaplay and TV3 (Sweden and Denmark) in autumn 2017.

With Alexander Karim (Tyrant; Zero Dark Thirty) as leading actor, produced by Oscar-nominated Nicklas Wikström Nicastro and Joakim Hansson, and created by bestselling author and lawyer Jens Lapidus (Easy Money), together with Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) and Michael Hjorth (Sebastian Bergman), The Lawyer follows the dangerous descent of Swedish defence lawyer Frank Nordling (Karim) into the Copenhagen underworld. When he discovers that the firm’s most important client is responsible for the murder of his parents, Nordling is drawn into a life-threatening web of violence and revenge. Wikström Nicastro and Hansson will produce The Lawyer for SF Studios Production, with Studio Canal handling international distribution.

Jakob Mejlhede, MTG EVP and Head of Programming and Content Development: ‘Copenhagen is often called the world’s happiest city – but not for Frank Nordling, a man torn between grief and revenge. We are very glad to work with the most talented producers and actors on The Lawyer as MTG continues our journey to become the Nordic region’s leading producer of original content’.

Karim: ‘I knew straight away that this was a once-in-a-lifetime role. It’s a privilege to take on such a complex character in a nuanced human drama paired with high-adrenaline action’. And completed Wikström Nicastro: 'We’ve brought together fantastic talents and now we’re going to create something truly special. Working with Viaplay and TV3 for the first time is inspiring'.

The Lawyer is the latest in a series of original productions commissioned by MTG Studios. Other titles include political thriller Embassy Down; new Nordic drama series Veni Vidi Vici; LA based comedy drama Swedish Dicks; Nordic noir series Hassel; feature length biopic SuperSwede about the life of Swedish Formula 1 driver Ronnie Peterson; and kids’ series The Great Escape.
