28-03-2017
GoAsean, the world’s first ASEAN travel channel announced during the Hong Kong International Film Festival - FILMART a landmark partnership with tonton, Malaysia’s first and largest OTT service, owned by Media Prima Berhad and dimsum, the latest Malaysian SVOD from SMG Entertainment Sdn Bhd (Star Media Group). It starts distribution since April.

This deal is part of GoAsean extensive expansion plan to broaden their reach to promote travel and tourism, in conjunction with ASEAN@50; a campaign celebrating 50 years of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The multi award-winning content provider offers over 60 hours of original content which highlights destinations across 10 Southeast Asian countries. All GoAsean Original Series, including the award-winning The Eco Traveller will be provided with subtitles in Mandarin on the dimsum platform.

Zefny Idris, VP, Brand commented of the channel: 'With 17 and counting shows under our belt, we plan to take things to greater heights in 2017 in line with our year 2 plans. We need to be sensitive to the way media is being consumed and be fluid enough in gravitating towards providing great offerings to where people are hungry for these content’.

Partnering with tonton marked a significant milestone, as the OTT reaches more than 6.6 million users, with 18,000 new members weekly. It offers a full library content of over 26,000 hours which includes catch-up, exclusive live events and premium channels, which can be accessed anytime and anywhere, hence an exclusive travel segment that can be accessed on-the-go adds greater value to the platform.

Airin Zainul, director of tonton & licensing and merchandising, added: ‘After 11 months of entering the OTT space as a subscription based service, we are excited to tie up with GoAsean in reaching out to a wider audience through travelogues. This partnership resonates with the ability of tonton VIP users watching the best shows anytime and anywhere’.

In addition, partnering with dimsum ensures the network appeals to wider audience who are seeking high quality and engaging travel content with Mandarin subtitles. Furthermore, as dimsum aims to serve the best Asian content with exclusive simulcast and premier rights from China, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand and Japan, the VOD service will enrich its offering with GoAsean content and strengthen its competitive advantage for the new established service.

‘We are pleased to partner with GoAsean as we continue to grow our content offerings. As we move forward, the partnership will enhance our travel and documentary genre on dimsum’, said Lam Swee Kim, Chief Marketing Officer of dimsum.

Fred Wang, Chairman of Asia Content Business Summit (ACBS) who witnessed the announcement, completed: ‘Partnerships like this are sound and will drive new opportunities over Southeast Asian market and boost the content industry further’.
