Antenna launches new shock doc series Naked Balkans at MIPTV

The new series, co-produced by Antenna Studios and Adrenalin for PRVA TV (Serbia) and ANT1 (Greece), will for the first time investigate a range of little-known customs, practices and traditions from across the diverse Balkan states. From the cannibalistic criminal gang in Serbia to the Greek convention of cleansing a village of evil spirits using dogs and the mysterious and clandestine practice of Black Magic in Serbia, Naked
Balkans unearths some of Europe’s most hidden, longstanding and disquieting traditions.

Pete Smith, Managing Director at Antenna Group, said: “Documentaries - and in particular astonishing human stories - are proving to be more popular than ever and our new series offers audiences a unique insight into some truly shocking cultures and customs from an endlessly fascinating and little known region. Naked Balkans will highlight a wide range of topics from the Balkan countries that have never before been brought to the screen – whether it is resurrecting a deceased, unmarried son for his wedding or the mysterious Rtanj Mountains where UFOs are often sighted – viewers will be both amazed and unsettled in equal measure'.

Antenna International will preview one episode from the new series to buyers at MIPTV in Cannes next month. The full series, which is already in production and will be narrated in English, features a series of standalone episodes each focussing on a different but equally fascinating topic.

Some of the subjects explored across the strand include the fascinating bioenergy healing practices of the region, real-life contemporary vampires, debilitating rare diseases as well as featuring some of the region’s most unique personalities.

Tea Korolija is producing the series for Adrenalin. Antenna International’s Head of Distribution, Tatjana Pavlovic, is handling international distribution of the series. Naked Balkans is available to international broadcasters at MIPTV as a 30x26’ or 15x45’ series.
