Mediahub Market, the new Asian programming trade show
2012.06.19 | The first edition of the Mediahub Market, which took place on May 29 and 30 in Bangkok, Thailand, gathered broadcasters, content producers/distributors from Asia, as well as international programming providers. The 2013 edition will be held in Indonesia.
Organized by the Global Media Centre for Development (GMCD) and Asia Media Summit (AMS), Mediahub Market was the first media trade fair to focus on the promotion of the emerging markets. Over 120 broadcasting organizations from more than 60 countries —mostly from the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and the Arab world— attended the show, which also hosted two national pavilions from France and Malaysia.
‘The number of exhibitors was intentionally limited to 47, so as to create an ideal setting for discussion and negotiation’, it was said from the organizers.
‘I hope this will be the first step for it to play a big role in this region’, said Thepchai Yong, managing director of the Thai Public Broadcasting Service, while Ye Htut, director general of Myanmar’s Ministry of Information, added: ‘I expect to see Mediahub Market at all future AMS’.
Comparing the event to other markets, Minehiro Sugamura, Sales, Planning & Promotion Manager of Sapporo Television Broadcasting commended: ‘The event allowed us to have meetings with new buyers whom I wouldn’t have met at Tokyo’s TIFFCOM, Hong Kong’s Filmart or Singapore’s ATF, so I had additional business opportunities here’.
Hugues d’Annoux, Chairman of the GMCD, explained: ‘During this two-day event, new business opportunities have been explored. Participants, exhibitors and buyers have met new partners, expanded their network, and increased their visibility in this fast-growing market’.
