Mirada: one year of good news

09-04-2013
Mirada PLC announced profitability for the first time last November, with increased revenue and gross profit compared to the previous year.

In continuation, the company completed an equity placing and capitalization of creditor balances totaling, in aggregate, over $2 million USD. Since these announcements, Mirada has won three major new contracts in Latin America with important operators in the region, and is also in advanced negotiation processes with various other operators, to be concluded within the year.

Mirada already has a strong customer base in Latin America, with several major customers currently deploying mirada´s products in the region, such as Brazilian GVT, and Mexican operators Cablecom and AXTEL which have recently launched mirada products: AXTEL recently entered the IPTV pay-TV market with state of the art hybrid services which combine IPTV broadcast channels, on-demand (VoD, Catch Up and network PVR) and interactive content via IP with access to free-to-air DTT broadcast channels.

For these new hybrid services, AXTEL selected to deploy mirada´s Navi solution, in collaboration with Ericsson, and successfully launched the service at the end of January. Cablecom Mexico chose to expand its digital TV service with mirada´s Iris product, and launched Digital 3.0 last summer, offering Cablecom dozens of full HD TV channels, in addition to 200+ audio and video channels, as well as pay-per-view content and premium packages presented on a cutting-edge interactive customisable EPG developed especially for Cablecom. Cablecom launched additional new and easy-to-use PVR features at the beginning of March, 2013, including one-click recording, advanced conflict management, timeshift functionality, dual recording and general recording management.

There are additional launches scheduled for this year as well. One deployment, with a multi-national telecommunications operator, is scheduled to be launched later this year, and includes mirada´s remote recording functionality, part of the Iris product, and the integration of content recommendation and search engines.

A further deployment scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2013 is with a leading broadband and telephony operator in Latin America. mirada will provide the browser-based Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) for this service, in partnership with leading conditional access and set-top box vendors in the industry.

Mirada´s two complete navigational solutions are Navi and Iris, deployed by multiple operators around the world. Navi, mirada´s next generation solution, is a complete set of interactive navigational services ported on SVG. Iris is mirada´s novel end-to-end multi-screen solution, which merges the best of traditional broadcast services and OTT services in one; presents an intuitive, efficient and unified user experience across multiple devices: STB, PC, mobiles and tablets.

In the meantime, Mirada’s R&D department has been busy at work developing an evolutionary UI for the Iris Client based on real user behaviour. The underlying philosophy behind this unique user interface is that users don´t always feel like watching TV in the same way- people are not always in the same mood. Sometimes, we want to watch TV actively- discover new content, get recommendations, search, filter, etc. Other times, we are lazier, and want someone else to help us find what to watch in a more passive manner. The ZAP UI contains all of the rich functionalities, extensive content discovery methods, different search methods, recommendations and more, but puts additional emphasis on simple, fast and natural navigation, a constant feature in mirada´s designs. ZAP users can choose to sit back and relax, while letting the TV choose for them.
