All3Media International: new drama deals with Arte

10-05-2013
Television distributor All3Media International has secured a roster of sales for Company Pictures’ high-calibre political thriller Secret State, as the star-studded drama makes its mark at prestigious European festivals.

In a significant deal with broadcaster Arte, the 4 x 1 hour mini-series, starring Golden Globe-winning Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) and Charles Dance (Going Postal), will air later this year throughout France, Germany, Austria, Belgium and further French speaking territories. This news adds to Secret State’s recent screening at Séries Mania in Paris, its entry to Série Series in Fontainebleau in July and further Festival screenings planned in 2013.

Secret State, which debuted on Channel 4 in the UK at the end of 2012, will also air throughout Europe following acquisitions by DR TV (Denmark), RTV Slovenija (Slovenia), RUV (Iceland), TV2 (Norway), HRT (Croatia) and VRT (Flemish speaking Belgium). Outside Europe, the drama has been signed by TVNZ (New Zealand), BBC Worldwide (Australia), Allarco Entertainment (English speaking Canada), DBS (Israel), Pramer in a pan territory deal covering Central & South America and AMC/ Sundance Channel Global for Asia, CEE and Iberia.

Louise Pedersen, Managing Director at All3Media International said, “We are very pleased to see Secret State making such an impact throughout the world and its selection at a number of leading Festivals this year is great testament to the impeccable quality of this drama.  It brings an immense pedigree to any broadcaster’s primetime schedules, with the award-winning Company Pictures at the helm and a globally-renowned cast equal to any major movie release.”

Featuring outstanding performances from an all-star cast including Gabriel Byrne and Charles Dance, Secret State is produced by Company Pictures for Channel 4. The drama lays bare the intersections between government and industry, when the integrity of those in power is tested to the limit as a large scale industrial accident leads to political cover-ups and questionable ethics. Gina McKee (In the Loop), Douglas Hodge (Unforgiven) and Lia Williams (The Last Detective) also star.
