Mipcom: Sierra/Engine launches The Black Box

30-09-2013
Global production and distribution venture, Sierra/Engine TV announced the launching of the highly anticipated ABC series, The Black Box at Mipcom in France.

Tele München Gruppe acquired the series for German-speaking Europe and Modern Times Group for Scandinavia. The series also secured a coveted 13 episode prime-time in-season commitment from ABC in the US. Production will commence in October in New York.

The Black Box is the story about a brilliant neurologist with a special touch for the patients she treats each week while solving the complexities of the brain.

Chris Philip, CEO for Sierra/Engine TV, said: ‘As the show’s early pre-sales demonstrate, today’s international marketplace is willing to get in on the ground level on a daring new U.S. Network series with a tremendously talented group of people’.

Jakob Mejlhede, SVP Acquisitions & Programming for Modern Times Group, commented: ‘We are certain that a series with such a strong premise will attract many viewers in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, and are naturally happy to have acquired the rights at this early stage’.

The Black Box is written by Amy Holden Jones (Mystic Pizza, Indecent Proposal) and produced by Bold Films (Legion, Drive), an independent film finance and production company, with Sierra/Engine handling worldwide distribution. Executive producers include Jones, Anne Thomopoulos (Rome, Borgia), Bryan Singer (House, X-Men), Oly Obst (The Invention of Lying) and Ilene Chaiken (The L Word), who also serves as showrunner.
