Off the Fence: 900 hours of contents to MIPTV

08-04-2014
Off the Fence is launching over 900 hours of contents right ahead MIPTV, which begins next week in Cannes. The slate includes Barinia, Sisters (16x’25), Sisters with Voices Reunited (6x’60) and Cruise Ship Down: Saving Concordia (’60)

The first title is from Storyhaus Productions, and it is a 4K-shot series that follows a couple as they travel round the Mediterranean on their yacht on a cultural and culinary adventure around the coastal landscapes to meet with friends and sample local produce and traditions. Is distributor’s first 4K show.

The second  follows the Grammy-nominated US female singing trio from the 90’s as they make their comeback after 15 years; it premiered on WE tv in January this year to more than 1.2 million viewers. And the third one is from Smithonian Networks about the raising of the Costa Concordia. The one-off doc looks at the monumental engineering challenge as 24 nations come together to pry the ship from her rocky grave.

These new additions accompanies other programming, including Mystery of the Lost Ship (‘60), a history/ science docudrama from Tile Films which sees a film crew follow a team of underwater archaeologists and scientists for three years as they explore the hull of an ancient shipwreck of the coast of Ireland, and World’s Wildest Cities: Manaus (Off the Fence Production), from the successful Wildest… franchise, which takes a look at the booming Brazilian city in the heart of the Amazon, and its remarkable animal residents.

Georgina Eyre, head of acquisitions, says: ‘We’ll focusing stongly on MIPDoc as well as MIPTV: it is our strongest factual offering yet. These acquisitions are exactly the kind of programming that we are looking to take to the global market. During 2014, we celebrate our 20th Anniversary, so it is fitting that we are able to offer buyers a wide range of non-fiction content —from lifestyle programming to blue-chip natural history documentaries— which will have great appeal for viewers’.
