Brazil and Argentina to link telecommunications networks

25-04-2011
Brazil and Argentina have agreed to interconnect the Internet access networks both governments are currently deploying in their nations. Among other advantages, future connections will be faster and no longer routed through international carriers.

The agreement was signed during Brazil President Dilma Rousseff's recent visit to Buenos Aires, where she met Argentina President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. The Brazilian network will result from the application of the Plano Nacional de Banda Larga (PNBL) started during the Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva government, while the Argentine infrastructure will be built and operated by Arsat, a State-owned telecommunications enterprise.
