Cable Magico is now Movistar TV

The Peruvian branch of Spanish Telefónica is unifying all its assets under the Movistar brand umbrella; as a result, its cable MSO Cable Mágico in Lima became Movistar TV.

Movistar TV covers Lima and other six major cities (Arequipa, Chiclayo, Chimbote, Cusco, Piura and Trujillo) while the rest of the nation is served by a DTH system. the company was started in 1993 as a subsidiary of the Compañía Peruana de Teléfonos (CPT), later purchased by Telefonica when the Peruvian phone system was privatized. According to Private Advisor data (cable + DTH), the joint total of subscribers is 720,000. In Lima there are 1.3 million multichannel households, according to Ibope Data.

Movistar TV's lineup includes three in-house channels (CMD, PlusTV and La Costa) and three exclusive channels produced by third parties: Canal N (news), FemTv (aiming on female audiences) and RPP TV (news), produced by Radio Programas del Peru, a local radio network.
