LA Screenings 2022: the independents and three major Studios confirmed

The big question after NATPE Miami was canceled last January was whether the LA Screenings were going to take place in 2022. The question was not because of Covid (which has been completely cleared up), but whether the independents were going to congregate enought volume of buyers from Latin America while there were no confirmations from the US Studios. The silece had a reason, as the majority of them are 100% focused on producing originals contents for their SVOD premieres, and many buyers were wondering if they would have content available for their screens.

That doubt was cleared up in the recent days when industry sources confirmed that they had received the first invitations from some major studios. Following these inquiries, Prensario spoke with all those involved a week ago: first, Isabella Márquez, the historical organizer of the independents, who confirmed the dates of May 18 to 20. Second with NATPE: with the announcement of its annual calendar of virtual, physical and hybrid events (which did not include May), it was unclear if the organization would be part of the 2022 LA Screenings, as it had in recent years. 'If the studios organized their events in the historic week of May, we would be interested in being part', they said.

To date, in addition to the independent days, there are three studios that will hold their screenings: NBCUniversal on Sunday, May 22, WarnerMedia on Monday, May 23, and Sony on Tuesday, May 24. In other words, not only the return of the event is a fact, but everything indicates that it would be on its traditional format since both, Paramount and Disney, are evaluating these days when they will hold their meetings. The natural thing would be for the first to take Saturday, May 21, the first screenings after the independent dates, and for the second, the last day, Wednesday, May 25.
