Brazil: Via Embratel exceeded the 1,1 million subscriber mark in 2010
While Net remains leading the pack with 4,2 million subscribers and Sky is at 2,5 million, Telmex's Via Embratel reached 1,13 million pay TV customers, according to Anatel data issued this month.Telefónica had 486,300 DTH & wireless and 165.700 cable subscribers (through TVA) while Oi finished 2010 with 402,000 subscribers. At that time, the market total was at 9,76 million. At the end of March 2011 it has been estimated at 10.4 million.
Brazilian online publication Tela Viva underscores that the three major operators competing against Net and Sky, where Globo is a partner, have jointly exceeded the 2 million subscriber mark by December 2010. Other independent operators accounted for some 824,000 subscribers.
