Annecy Festival 2026 to present "Music Day" at Mifa market to elevate original scores in animation

11-06-2026
The initiative, organized by Sacem in partnership with Mifa and 22D Music, will take place on Friday, June 26, as part of the French festival. This year's business and academic agenda features panels focused on original scores for feature films in competition, speed-dating sessions between producers and composers, and a dedicated networking lab for international students.

The Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music (Sacem), in operational coordination with the International Animation Film Market (Mifa) and 22D Music, officially unveiled the program for Music Day. The dedicated event will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, integrating into the official schedule of the Annecy Festival—running from June 21 to 27—and its professional market, Mifa, scheduled for June 23 to 26.

The goal of the day is to highlight the strategic role of original musical compositions within animated productions, while establishing direct networking channels between creators, filmmakers, and industrial financing funds.

Key panels and business matchmaking sessions
The Music Day activities are structured across case-study panels, technical discussions, and co-production meetings at various venues in the French city:

Meet the... Composers: Matchmaking sessions designed to connect music composers with international film directors and producers. The event will take place on Friday, June 26, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the Ravel room at the Impérial Palace. Producer registration remains open until June 15.

"Lucy Lost" Panel Discussion: A production case study detailing the acoustic architecture of the official competition feature film Lucy Lost. The session will feature director Olivier Clert, composer Anne-Sophie Versnaeyen, and music supervisor Pierre-Marie Dru, moderated by journalist Perrine Quennesson. The panel is set for the Rotonde de l'Europe at the Impérial Palace, from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm.

Annecy Music Lab – Let's Talk: A deep-dive conversation focused on the feature film Little Amélie or the Character of Rain (winner of the 2025 Annecy Festival Audience Award). The panel will feature director Maïlys Vallade, editor Ludovic Versace, and composer Mari Fukuhara, moderated by Perrine Quennesson. It will run from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in Room 4 at Le Campus Mifa.

Annecy Music Lab – Let's Meet: A networking and exchange hub targeted at international music composition and filmmaking students, designed to foster creative alliances for upcoming industry projects. The session will take place in Room 1 at Le Campus Mifa from 3:15 pm to 4:45 pm.

As a prelude to Friday's intensive schedule, organizers will host an invitation-only opening party featuring musical blind tests on Thursday, June 25, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, overlooking the lake.

Soundtrack funding and official selection support
Beyond the conference lineup, Sacem reaffirmed its position within the global animation ecosystem through its dedicated grant and co-financing lines for original music across short films, features, and documentaries.

For the 2026 edition, the institution highlighted its direct financial backing of the original scores for two films in the main competition category: In Waves, directed by Phuong Mai Nguyen with music composed by Oklou and Rob, and the aforementioned Lucy Lost, directed by Olivier Clert and scored by Anne-Sophie Versnaeyen.
