The three-part investigative series, produced by Lightbox in association with Ladywell Films, is set to premiere globally on March 13, 2026. The documentary explores the dark reality behind an international yoga network and the allegations against its spiritual leader.Apple TV+ today announced the upcoming global premiere of "Twisted Yoga," a new three-part docuseries that delves into the disturbing hidden history of an international yoga empire. The series is the latest project from the acclaimed production house Lightbox, led by two-time Academy Award-winning producer Simon Chinn (Man on Wire, Searching for Sugar Man) and Emmy Award winner Jonathan Chinn (Tina, LA 92).
Directed by Rowan Deacon (Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story), the series follows a diverse group of young students from across the globe who, in their pursuit of spiritual purpose, became entangled in a network led by the reclusive Romanian "guru" Gregorian Bivolaru.
From Spiritual Search to Criminal Allegations
The narrative centers on an international network of yoga studios specializing in tantric rituals. As students were drawn into the practice, many began to suspect the organization operated as a cult. The documentary highlights the experiences of select female students who were allegedly summoned to Bivolaru’s Paris apartment for "private initiations," uncovering a dark history of abuse and manipulation.
Currently, Bivolaru faces severe legal charges in France, including human trafficking, kidnapping, and rape. While Bivolaru denies all allegations, the series documents the efforts of his former students as they cooperate with French authorities to secure a conviction.
