Banijay Entertainment expands reality format Temptation Island into Denmark

04-06-2026
Production company Mastiff Denmark will develop the 28th international adaptation of the relationship reality franchise for the streaming platform Viaplay. The development follows high-performing viewership metrics for the brand across European and North American markets.

Global media group Banijay Entertainment finalized a content production agreement to launch a localized version of its reality television format Temptation Island in Denmark. The upcoming iteration will be produced by Mastiff Denmark, a subsidiary of Banijay Nordic, and is scheduled to broadcast on the Scandinavian streaming service Viaplay.

The project represents the 28th international adaptation of the media property, which originally debuted in the United States in 2001 and entered Banijay's corporate portfolio following its acquisition in 2012.

Format mechanics and international market performance
The structural framework of Temptation Island involves separating established couples into two independent villas. While segregated, the participants interact with a group of single individuals to evaluate the stability of their relationships, concluding with a decision to either maintain their original partnership, leave the production alone, or establish a new relationship with one of the single contestants.

The announcement follows sustained ratings and digital streaming performance metrics for the franchise across multiple operational territories:

Spain: The recent season ranked as the top-performing daily program for network Telecinco, generating viral social media interaction.

United States: The second season distributed by Netflix achieved a position in the platform's Global Top 10 English-language series track and has secured a renewal for a third season.

Benelux Region: The show maintained the top daily broadcast position on the Streamz platform in Belgium since its launch, while simultaneously tracking as the most-viewed title on Amazon Prime Video in the Netherlands since its localized premiere.

Corporate strategy and local production context
Kristian Farcin-Leth, Chief Executive Officer of Mastiff Denmark, stated that the Danish adaptation will utilize a high-scale production model designed to emphasize the emotional intensity and narrative style characteristic of the global brand. Lucas Green, Chief Content Officer of Operations at Banijay Entertainment, noted that the format's commercial durability relies heavily on its capacity to adapt to shifting platform distribution methods and varying local audience demographics.

Mastiff Denmark maintains an active production slate of premium reality and unscripted formats within the Nordic region. The company's recent operational milestones include the development of a Danish version of Love is Blind for Netflix, alongside localized productions of established international franchises such as Survivor, SAS: Who Dares Wins, and Portrait Artist of the Year.
