Blue Spirit Studios multiple award-winner at the Annie Awards for the series Blue Eye Samurai
At the 51st Annie Awards ceremony, which took place in Los Angeles on Saturday the 17th of February, Blue Spirit Studios, Newen Studios' animation production company, was proud to receive several awards for the Blue Eye Samurai series.Blue Eye Samurai takes us back to Japan in 1633 to follow the daily life of the samurai Mizu. Considered a foreigner because of her piercing blue eyes, she sets out on a journey to take revenge on four Westerners who are in the country illegally.
Blue Eye Samurai, a series produced by Netflix and 3 Arts Entertainment, was the most awarded programme of the evening, with six awards out of six nominations in the following categories:
• Best TV/Media - Mature (pilot episode: Hammerscal)
• Best Production Design - TV/Media (episode The Great Fire of 1657)
• Best Writing - TV/Media (episode The Tale of the Ronin and the Bride)
• Best Editorial - TV/Media (episode The Tale of the Ronin and the Bride)
• Best Character Animation - TV/Media (episodes 101, 104 and 106)
• Best FX - TV/Media (episode All Evil Dreams and Angry Words)
Four Blue Spirit talents were directly honoured for their collaboration in the making of the series, in particular for their work on the 2D sets, 3D pre-production, 3D layout, animation and FX:
- Alex Bard won "Best Character Animation - TV/Media"
- Thomas Decaens, Karl Burtin and Laurent Bretonniere won "Best FX - TV/Media"
These awards pay tribute to the exceptional work of the Blue Spirit Studios teams, and testify to their unique expertise on ambitious, international projects.
