The sci-fi drama will launch its U.S. theatrical run on June 12, with international sales scheduled to begin at the Cannes Film Market.Electric Entertainment has officially secured the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the feature film O Horizon, starring Academy Award nominees Maria Bakalova and David Strathairn. The announcement, made by CEO Dean Devlin, positions the Los Angeles-based company to spearhead the film's global rollout following its recent success at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where it was honored with the Jury Prize for Best Picture.
The distribution strategy includes a platform theatrical release in the United States handled by Variance Films, beginning June 12 in New York City. Electric Entertainment will subsequently launch international sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, with distribution to international markets and U.S. ancillary platforms slated for late summer.
Written and directed by Emmy Award-winner Madeleine Rotzler, O Horizon is a magical realist fable that explores the boundaries of grief and technology. The plot follows a neuroscientist (Bakalova) who discovers an emerging technology that allows her to communicate with her recently deceased father (Strathairn). The film also features a supporting cast including Adam Pally, Maggie Grace, Avi Nash, and Paulina Porizkova.
Dean Devlin highlighted the film’s emotional resonance and its commentary on the future of AI, noting its balance of dramatic power and comic relief. The acquisition deal was negotiated by Ben Kim and Addie Booth of Electric Entertainment, with Robert Benun and Mark Gill representing the film's production interests.
