Filmax: international expansion with new series and animation
Prensario spoke with Iván Díaz, director of international at Filmax, who presented the company’s new projects and analyzed trends in the audiovisual market. The executive highlighted two titles that marked the studio’s presence in Cannes. The first, Ravalear Not For Sale, is an ambitious production for HBO Spain and Portugal, inspired by a true story about gentrification in the center of Barcelona. ‘It’s a drama with a local soul and a universal perspective, mixing the pulse of The Bear with the tension of an urban thriller’, explained Díaz. The series, currently in post-production, will premiere in 2026 and will be distributed globally by Filmax.
The second title, Bocas de Cielo, continues the universe of Bocas de Arena, a noir filmed in Basque that now adds Televisión Española as a co-producer. ‘With this second eight-hour season, the series reaches the necessary dimension to travel internationally’, he said.
Filmax also reaffirmed its cinematic strength, with more than 20 annual releases in Spanish cinemas. Its most recent release, Mi amiga Eva, starring Rodrigo de la Serna and Nora Navas, has been well received at the box office.
In addition, the company is making headway in the children’s market with Super Fiends, a 52-episode animated series based on Magic Box toys, which will also include a film scheduled for release in October 2026.
