Filmax starts selling its new animated series, Superthings: Rivals of Kaboom – Kazoom Power

16-10-2023
The first season of the series will air in Spain at the end of 2024, and the second season will arrive to the Spanish small screen in 2025.

Superthings: Rivals of Kaboom – Kazoom Power, the series produced by Filmax, Tandem Films and Turanga Films, is part of a 3D animation franchise for children, which includes a two-season series (with a total of 52 episodes) and a movie. The feature film will be released in 2026, just one year after the second season of the serie’s premiere. These plans certainly show the producer’s true commitment to this content franchise.

Both the series and the movie have been developed in parallel with one of the biggest IPs in the toy industry: the hugely successful Superthings toys. Sold by Spanish company Magicbox in over 20 countries, the S Superthings toys have become the best-selling toy in Spain, the United Kingdom and other European countries.

The project, which already has the support of RTVE (Spanish national public network), À Punt (Valencia region’s public network), ICEC and ICAA in Spain, was presented by Filmax a few days ago in Toulouse. The series was one of those chosen to be presented in the market at the prestigious animation event, Cartoon Forum.

The franchise is targeted at children between 6 and 10 years old and is backed by an experienced team who have a long history in the production of children’s animation. Among them is Carlos Bleycher (POCOYO), as the main scriptwriter, Keytoon Animation Studio, with brothers David and Jonathan Cuevas in charge of directing the series, and José Luis Ucha (MY LITTLE PONY) as the creator of the bible. Among the producers of the series are Carlos Fernández (NOCTURNA, THE HAIRY TOOTHFAIRY) and Laura Fernández (THE CHAPEL) from Filmax, Pablo Bossi (TURU, THE WACKY HEN) and Cristina Zumárraga (LOST & FOUND) from Tandem Films and Lina Badenes (TURU AND THE WACKIES, TV Series) from Turanga Films. The movie will be directed by Víctor Monigote, director of the Goya-winning film, TURU, THE WACKY HEN

The series tells the story of the adventures embarked upon by three kids, Kai, Finn and Mia. Friends from the sixth grade, they find themselves caught up in the adventure of their lives when Enigma calls on them to travel to Kaboom City, a fantastic world where everyday objects have become superheroes and supervillains rivals: The Hero Orange VS the Villain Juicer, the Hero Drums VS the Villain Guitar and so many more will be shown in humorous, action-filled adventures as they all try to control the Kazoom Power.

Superthings: Rivals of Kaboom – Kazoom Power revolves around three main themes that contribute to the growth and development of the youngest viewers: the power of imagination, the importance of team work in the success of all heroes and healthy rivalry as a source of motivation to bring out the best in oneself.

Ivan Diaz, Head of International at Filmax, talks excitedly about this new production: ‘Superthings is a global move for us, a true commitment to a franchise that will include a two-season series and a movie. Given the international, commercial success of the Magic Box toys, we believe that this IP has the potential to become one of the strongest on the market and we have complete faith in its global vocation’.

David Bella, CEO of Magicbox, notes: ‘The project makes us feel very excited given the high-quality of the series. It perfectly reflects the essence of the Superthings universe with a lot of action and humor. This is an amazing opportunity for kids around the globe to feel inspired, engaged and have great fun with the adventures of Superthings’.

Over the coming days, Filmax, who recently celebrated its 70th anniversary during the recent edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, will be showing the first images of the series to buyers at MIPCOM and MIPJunior
