GMA Network honored with two global Filipino Icon Awards in Dubai

GMA Network, the Philippines’ leading media company, earned two prestigious accolades at the Global Filipino Icon Awards 2026, held on January 31 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The network was recognized for its commitment to elevating Filipino stories worldwide, while veteran journalist Atom Araullo was honored for his lifelong dedication to public service journalism.

GMA Pinoy TV, the flagship international channel of GMA International, received the Excellence in Global Filipino Storytelling Award. The distinction highlights the channel’s role in connecting Filipinos across the globe through content that reflects their experiences, aspirations, and identity, while also providing a platform for Filipino voices and talent on the world stage. The award was accepted by Joseph T. Francia, GMA Network First Vice President and Head of International Operations.

In his acceptance speech, Francia underscored GMA International’s broader mission beyond entertainment and information. “There are more than 11 million Filipinos living across the world—and with them, 11 million stories waiting to be told,” he said, emphasizing storytelling as a bridge that fosters belonging and connection among global Filipino communities through GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News.

Meanwhile, broadcast journalist Atom Araullo was conferred the Lifetime Achievement in Public Service Journalism Award in recognition of his impactful field reporting and documentary work. Through programs such as State of the Nation, The Atom Araullo Specials, and I-Witness, Araullo has consistently brought social, humanitarian, and environmental issues to the forefront of public discourse.

Addressing the audience, Araullo stressed that journalism’s true purpose lies in amplifying unheard voices. He also encouraged young storytellers to remain committed to accuracy, empathy, and responsibility, noting that these values are acts of public service in times of uncertainty.

The Global Filipino Icon Awards, presented by Dubai-based The Global Filipino Magazine, honor individuals and organizations that promote Filipino excellence and impact worldwide.
