ITV commissions UK version of iconic music game show Name That Tune
Alison Hammond will host the new series featuring an elite live band and contestants competing to identify global hits across all musical genres.ITV has announced the return of the global format Name That Tune for a brand-new series on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player. Hosted by Alison Hammond, the program challenges members of the public to identify well-known songs after hearing only a few notes. The competition features fast-paced rounds spanning diverse musical eras and artists, ranging from Frank Sinatra and Duran Duran to Beyoncé and Olivia Dean, culminating in a final round for the contestants.
The production includes the participation of the Name That Tune band, a group of musicians who have previously performed with international artists such as Adele and The Spice Girls. This ensemble will perform live in the studio, covering various genres in their own style to test the contestants' knowledge of riffs, melodies, and lyrics. The format, which is currently in its fifth season on FOX in the United States, aims to provide a multi-generational entertainment experience where viewers at home can participate alongside the studio audience.
The series is a co-production between Bright Entertainment, part of ITV Studios, and BiggerStage. It was commissioned by Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment, Reality & Daytime at ITV, and Louise Major, Entertainment Commissioning Editor. Executive producers include Clara Elliott and Martin Scott for Bright Entertainment, and Pat Kiely and Sean O’Riordan for BiggerStage. The agreement to bring the Prestige Entertainment Group-owned brand to the UK was facilitated by FOX Entertainment Global.
Official representatives from the involved networks and production companies emphasized the global appeal of the brand and its potential to connect with a new era of British audiences. The show is based on the original format created by Harry Salter and seeks to integrate nostalgia with modern competition. Filming and broadcast dates for the UK series will be announced in due course as part of ITV’s upcoming entertainment schedule.
