KBRO Leverages Harmonic’s Fiber-on-Demand Solution for Network Upgrades
The Taiwanese operator KBRO has implemented a virtualized broadband platform to expand its fiber infrastructure and deliver multi-gigabit services through a converged DOCSIS and XGS-PON architecture. The broadband provider KBRO, operating in Taiwan, has initiated a process to evolve its next-generation access network through the adoption of a fiber-on-demand solution. This technical development is supported by a virtualized broadband platform designed to facilitate multi-gigabit connectivity. The implementation complements the operator’s current DOCSIS high-split modernization strategy, allowing for the expansion of fiber services across its existing footprint based on market demand.
The integration of this technology enables the activation of advanced fiber services directly from existing remote nodes, an approach intended to streamline infrastructure and align network growth with revenue opportunities. This transition to XGS-PON technology is designed to increase network capacity and provide higher broadband speeds. PK Lee, Vice President of Engineering at KBRO, stated: 'We see the future of the broadband market in Taiwan to be defined by fiber-deep innovation and scalable infrastructure. Our focus is on providing outstanding broadband experiences to our customers while managing our investments responsibly. Expanding our partnership with Harmonic enables us to deploy fiber where demand is strongest and efficiently deliver next-generation broadband speeds across our network'.
The project reinforces the presence of software-based network architectures within the Asia-Pacific region, aiming for a flexible system that allows for long-term service evolution. Jeffrey Glahn, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Harmonic, remarked: 'KBRO continues to demonstrate strong leadership in advancing broadband infrastructure in a competitive market. At Harmonic, our goal is to provide broadband service providers with a practical path to expand fiber strategically and efficiently. KBRO implementation of Harmonic’s fiber-on-demand architecture in the APAC market reinforces our expanding presence in global fiber modernization initiatives. We are proud to support KBRO’s continued network evolution and long-term growth'.
