Klik Studios secures worldwide rights to legendary BBC 'Parkinson' archive in landmark licensing agreement
The digital-first channel management and rights studio unifies the complete library of the iconic British chat show, combining the newfound BBC catalog with its existing ITV and ABC collections to manage over three decades of historic broadcasting material.Digital-first channel management and rights specialist Klik Studios has officially finalized a landmark licensing agreement with the BBC. The contract grants the company worldwide distribution and management rights to the archive of the iconic talk show Parkinson, covering its original run on BBC One from 1971 to 1982, as well as the episodes broadcast during the series' return to the network starting in 1998.
The newly acquired catalog integrates with Klik Studios' existing portfolio, which already held the rights to the Parkinson episodes that aired on commercial network ITV between 2004 and 2007. Additionally, the studio secured the rights to Parkinson in Australia, a variant commissioned and broadcast by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) from 1979 to 1983. Together, these collections consolidate more than three decades of historic broadcast interviews with major cultural figures of the twentieth century, including Muhammad Ali, John Lennon, Lauren Bacall, Orson Welles, and Bing Crosby.
Estate Partnership and Digital Rights Management
The agreement represents an extension of the ongoing commercial relationship between Klik Studios and the estate of the late broadcaster. The studio currently operates The Michael Parkinson Channel on YouTube and previously commissioned Virtually Parkinson, an award-winning artificial intelligence podcast produced in 2024. Developed with the direct involvement of the Parkinson family, that project utilized specialized ethical frameworks to recreate Sir Michael Parkinson's voice and interview methodology.
'We've worked closely with the Klik Studios team for some time now, and the trust we've built together made this the obvious next step," stated Mike Parkinson, representing the Parkinson family. "My father's BBC years contain some of the most extraordinary interviews he ever had, and we're delighted that they'll now find a new generation of viewers through a partnership we genuinely believe in'.
Corporate Expansion and Portfolio Alignment
Lara Sword, Head of Factual Network at Klik Studios, emphasized the strategic scale of the acquisition: 'This is a truly historic moment for us. We've been proud custodians of the ITV archive and the YouTube channel for some time, but adding the early BBC years alongside that changes the scale of what we can do entirely. The Parkinson archive is one of the great documents of twentieth century culture'.
Klik Studios operates globally as a digital-first channel management entity across YouTube and various social media platforms on behalf of major international intellectual property owners. The company is a subsidiary of Seraverse, a Serafin enterprise whose corporate media portfolio also includes scripted content distributor Eccho Rights, factual specialist BossaNova, and factual production house Curve Media.
