The Government-funded organization announced a new policy to keep positioning the Asian market as a key destination for animation production. The DICE policy brings to the table USD 5 millions that are spent in training programs, content development, marketing and international distribution and promotion of the Malaysian industry. MDec is a pioneer entity pushing the Malaysian animation boundaries, having presented over 12 international policies to gain awareness from the global market. ‘Those plans are created to build the resources for the next year. We help producers to attend the main trade shows, providing a space, offering better prices on the registration fees, etc.’, added Samsudin.
‘We are consistent in the plan and we don’t cover only animation, but all the digital content development and promotion. The main markets for our producers are APAC, USA and Europe, but we are building bridges in other territories. We have established brands as Hogie the Globehopper (Lil Critter Workshop), Boing the Playranger (Giggle Garage), a coproduction with Korea; or Kazzop, coproduction with Australia for Netflix; and Kuu Kuu Harajuku, from Vision Animation and with voices of Gwen Stefani. Last year, three Malaysian animation movies where in the TOP 3 of the local box office’, concluded the executive.
