Marlo Miazga launches new independent IP Venture M Media
The newly formed production company hits the ground running with its first greenlight for the memoir feature documentary ‘Ground Control.’Marlo Miazga, founder, editor, showrunner, creator and executive producer has announced the launch of her new company, M Media, an IP based media business that develops and delivers unscripted and scripted entertainment for all platforms and channels.
Last October Miazga announced a commission from Random House Canada, an imprint of Penguin-Random House to write Ground Control: Losing my child to suicide - the memoir that details the tragic story of losing her 14-year-old child, Mars to suicide in November of 2020 and its harrowing aftermath.
Ground Control the feature documentary has been in development alongside the writing of the book with production finance now agreed by a collaboration of funders; Telefilm Canada’s Theatrical Documentary Program, Canada Media Fund’s (CMF) POV program and Rogers Documentary Fund.
M Media can now also announce its first broadcast greenlight commissioned by CBC in Canada with start of production slated for later in October and delivery aligned for next spring 2027 following the official launch of the book. The publisher will release the book on January 26, 2027, co-written by Miazga with writer and journalist Katrina Onstad.
The film is directed by award winning Canadian director and writer Chase Joynt (No Ordinary Man, Framing Agnes) and written by Greg Beer and Katrina Onstad. Miazga will be joined as executive producer by Catalyst founder Julie Bristow, a long-time advocate for mental health including fundraising and awareness campaigns for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre (now part of Sick Kids Hospital) with Ryan Dias also as exec. The film will also be distributed theatrically in Canada by Eyesteel Films and world-wide rights outside of Canada are currently available.
Miazga was most recently president and executive producer, Unscripted and Kids and Family at Sphere Media, one of Canada’s foremost producers of film and television. She has now returned to her entrepreneurial heartland having originally co-founded her first media company - NewroadMedia - in 2011 with CBC exec Ann Marie Redmond. She then went on to develop, create and produce multiple award-winning series while at BGM, Julie Bristow’s company that was subsequently sold to Kew Media and ultimately acquired by Sphere Media in 2020 where she served as President.
