'The launch of new OTT services in Mexico increases the urgency of a “super aggregator” that make life easier for the end user and this puts izzi at the forefront, thanks to its scale and integration.
Izzi has blim tv, Netflix, Disney +, while HBO Max, Star + and, Amazon Prime Video, will enter the catalog this year.'
Raymundo Fernández, Deputy General Director of Megacable --18% of MS-- told us: ‘The main driver of our packages is the internet; however, we continue to grow the number of video subscribers.
Another pioneer operator is Totalplay, which was also the one that grew the most last year --9.5% of MS--, the company is focused on increasing the number of users according to Eduardo Kuri himself. Penetration went from 16.6% to 25.3% compared to the previous year.'
Dish TV México with 7% MS will be part of the coverage of the Olympic Games with Claro Sports, including its 8 channels available at no additional cost from the basic package. Opportunities for OTTs with DirecTV Go and StarTV
Michael Bowling, DirecTV Latin America President, confirmed that for Mexico its SVOD OTT DirecTV GO, recently added HBO Max to its platform, at no additional cost for two years. This is in addition to the offer of live TV and on demand with Blim TV in Mexico.
Bruno Pruneda, from StarTV, which has more than 205,000 subscribers and a presence in 82% of the country's districts, defended the satellite against the OTT. ‘Without a doubt, we continue to be the option for many places in Mexico and LATAM with difficult access to the internet. ‘Eliminating linear channels would be a mistake if they want to keep reaching everywhere. Pruneda pointed out that: ‘We will continue adding OTTs, it has been a success to combine linear packages with OTT platforms’. Today the company offers the ViacomCBS, Paramount + packages plus the Premium SVOD platforms and the linear channels of HBO and Star (formerly Fox).
Salomón Padilla from ATIM said that: ‘In content, we see that people value local content more’ He also analyzes hiring four OTTs to have at least what the Pay TV players already have.
