The ripple effect brings together Brazil’s visom digital and India’s Karman Unlimited for a drama series Love is a Stranger

26-08-2025
The Ripple Effect is proud to announce that Karman Unlimited (India) has optioned the critically acclaimed Brazilian series Love is a Stranger from Visom Digital (Brazil), with plans to develop a local remake for the Indian market.

A gripping dramatic police fiction, Love is a Stranger confronts one of the most urgent issues of our time: violence against women. The story follows Vânia Jardim, a seasoned officer in Rio de Janeiro’s Department for the Defense of Women, whose personal trauma eerily mirrors the very crimes she investigates. Inspired by true stories, the series intertwines real cases of domestic violence with Vânia’s own battle against a ruthless media campaign led by digital influencer Branca Lemos. Ultimately, the narrative transcends crime drama to deliver a socially impactful message about resilience, justice, and hope.

Created by Ingrid Zavarezzi and Carlos de Andrade, and starring renowned Brazilian actress Juliana Knust, nominated for the Golden Panda Award for Best Actress for her performance in Love is a Stranger, the series premiered on AXN Brazil in October 2024 and set to launch on Record TV in late 2025, has been praised for its raw, realistic portrayal of gender-based violence, as well as for the emotional depth with which it addresses this global crisis.

'Love is a Stranger is a story that speaks to our deepest responsibility as storytellers—to shine light on issues that society too often overlooks', said Carlos de Andrade, Producer at Visom Digital. 'We are proud that this Brazilian story will now find new life and meaning in dialogue with audiences around the world'.

'This series represents the kind of bold, purposeful storytelling that Karman Unlimited champions', added Sunita Uchil, CEO of Karman Unlimited. 'By collaborating with Visom Digital and The Ripple Effect, we are able to bring a socially urgent narrative to a wider stage, reaffirming the power of entertainment to inspire awareness and change'.

'This series is more than a police drama—it is a call to action against gender-based violence, a universal issue that affects every society,” said Viviana Hadid, Executive Vice President of The Ripple Effect. 'We are eager to bring it soon to other markets, especially Latin America, where sadly this story is all too familiar'.
