Lions of the Skeleton Coast triumphs at Green Screen Festival
ORF Universum Nature documentary honored with Best Story Award in Eckernförde.The acclaimed ORF Universum Nature production Lions of the Skeleton Coast continues to collect international accolades, this time earning the Green Screen Award for Best Story at the 19th International Nature Film Festival Green Screen, held in Eckernförde, Germany.
Each year, the festival gathers over 300 documentary filmmakers from across the globe and draws more than 20,000 visitors to the Baltic Sea town. The recognition for Lions of the Skeleton Coast highlights the film’s compelling storytelling and its contribution to contemporary wildlife filmmaking.
Already celebrated at the Jackson Wild Media Awards, a four-time winner at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, and a recent News & Documentary Emmy® nominee, the production has become one of the most acclaimed nature documentaries of recent years.
Filmed over eight years by Will and Lianne Steenkamp alongside Dr. Philipp Stander, the documentary follows three orphaned lion cubs in Namibia’s Skeleton Coast as they evolve from vulnerable cubs into formidable hunters. A co-production by ORF, Into Nature Productions, Thirteen, WDR, and ARTE, and distributed by ORF-Enterprise, Lions of the Skeleton Coast stands as a testament to patience, dedication, and the enduring spirit of wildlife storytelling.
